MOBILE COVERAGE ON THE MOUNTAIN

Most major phone companies have coverage in the Alpine area. Best to go with Telstra or Optus Network.

For International team members, SIM cards are available online or at the airport, or “pay as you go” plans and SIMs with specific companies are also available (and generally a bit cheaper with better data options than the pre-paid international ones).

Either way, we strongly recommend sorting out your phone options in the airport or city area prior to your arrival to the mountain.

□ OPEN AN AUSTRALIAN BANK ACCOUNT

You are required to open a bank account in Australia before you arrive at Mt Buller. We recommend National Australia Bank, Commonwealth Bank, or ANZ, although you are free to choose. All wages are paid directly into the Australian bank of your choice. This can be done in any major city or in Mansfield. You will not be able to receive your wages if you do not have an Australian bank account or are unable to provide the account numbers to our payroll staff.

□ GET YOUR AUSTRALIAN TAX FILE NUMBER:

It is a requirement of the Australian Government that all people who work in Australia have a valid tax file number (TFN). You can only apply for this number once you have arrived in Australia. You can apply for your TFN online using the link below. We highly recommend you make your application online as soon as you arrive in Australia.

This link has more information about the ‘TFN’ and how to apply online.

Your TFN will be posted to you at the postal address you show on the application form. You may use the following address for all mail you wish to receive while at Mt Buller:

Postal Address: YOUR NAME

1 Summit Road, Mount Buller, Victoria, 3723, Australia

□ WHEN YOU HAVE YOUR TAX FILE NUMBER, OPEN A SUPERANNUATION ACCOUNT

Superannuation, or ‘super’, is money put aside by your employer over your working life for you to live on when you retire from work. Most people can choose the super fund they want their contributions paid into. The YourSuper comparison tool will help you compare MySuper products and choose a super fund that meets your needs. Once you have a Super account please update your Flare profile with your Super details.

If you are a temporary resident working in Australia and you are eligible for super, your employer has to make super guarantee contributions for you. You may be paid your super money once you have left Australia. This payment is called a Departing Australia super payment (DASP). New Zealand citizens and permanent residents of Australia are not eligible for this payment. To see if you’re eligible, and to apply for the DASP online or by downloading the paper application form, visit Temporary residents and super. More info about Super on this link.

□ VICTORIAN WORKING WITH CHILDRENS CHECK (FOR SKI & SNOWBOARD DEPARTMENT)

It is an Australian and Victorian State law that all employees who work with children hold a valid ‘Victorian Working with Children’s Check’. This must be completed prior to your arrival at Mt Buller, or you cannot commence work.

You may apply for a Working with Children’s Check online and then complete the application at an Australia Post Office – please note Mt Buller Post Office cannot process these applications. The closest Post Office is in Mansfield – we highly recommend you complete this task before leaving Melbourne. The Working with Children’s Check is valid for 5 years and you will need to make payment when you apply. You must apply for an ‘employee’ Working with Children’s Check. Follow the link below to start your application.

https://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au/individuals/applicants/how-to-apply

You will need to update your online onboarding to provide evidence that you have completed your application when you arrive at the resort.

□ TRAVEL INSURANCE & AMBULANCE COVER

We highly recommend all employees have appropriate travel insurance to cover any medical expenses for illness or injury. In the unfortunate circumstance you sustain an injury and require to be transported to hospital or the medical center via ambulance, you will be liable to the cost. A short trip in the ambulance can cost thousands of dollars.

There are several travel/health insurance providers that can offer coverage for overseas workers.
