How do I apply for Staff Accommodation and am I eligible?

Staff that are committing to the full season (between June and October season dates) and has unlimited availability may be offered BSL staff accommodation. Please confirm with your department hiring manager where your bed allocation is. You must be 18 YRS OLD or older to be allowed living in staff accommodation.

How many people will I live with?

The majority of staff accommodation provided by BSL is based on communal living arrangements. As such, you may be required to share with up to (3) other BSL team members in dorm style/backpackers accommodation with a shared lounge room and kitchen facilities.

Supermarket and Groceries

It is important to do your grocery shopping during daylight hours as there are no 24 hour shops on Mt Buller. You can head to the Buller Grocer that is usually open until 9pm or you can order online from IGA Mansfield/Foodworks Mansfield and get it delivered to your lodge for a delivery charge.

When delivering to the lodge include the below information:

LODGE NAME, YOUR NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE NUMBER

(Any special delivery notes, ie. where to leave it)

OR you can take the free BSL staff bus and do your shopping in town

Do we need to pay to use laundry facilities?

Laundry facilities are free to use as often as you need. The only requirement is that you supply your own laundry detergent. Make sure you buy the correct laundry detergent for the type of washing machine provided (Front or top load). If you’re unsure, buy front load washing powder as this can be used in both types.

How do I receive mail when in Buller?

All mails get directed to Mount Buller Post office. They are not delivered to your lodges. If you are expecting mails/parcels, please pick it up from the post office. You must bring photo ID and sign to collect your mails and parcels. If you live in an off mountain accommodation you can have your mail delivered directly to your lodge address.

How long can I stay in Staff Accommodation once my employment is terminated or contract has ended?

You can stay in your Staff Accommodation for no more than two (2) days from when your employment finished.

You will need to notify your Lodge Manager and Staff Services when departing by completing a clearance form and other departure processes. Your rent is deducted until your key and clearance form have been signed and handed into the Staff Services office.

Will I have my bond returned once I have moved out?

To receive the bond back at the end of the season, team members need to complete a clearance form and must leave their rooms clean and with no damage, return their uniforms and check out at the Staff Services office. If rooms are left in a messy state a cleaning fee may be held from bond. You can obtain a clearance form from your manager or from staff services office. Bond will be returned into the Australian bank account that your weekly pay is deposited into, in the week that you receive your final pay.

What can I go to my Lodge Manager for?

All staff accommodation has a Lodge Manager, your Lodge Manager is there to be a point of contact whilst living in staff accommodation. If you need supplies (toilet paper, dishwashing liquid, maintenance request etc) Please reach out to your Lodge Manager.

How do I book the free skiing and snowboarding lesson as a staff member?

Please head to the Ski & Snowboard School Sales counter at the Ski School Building and book your free lesson. Please note that the free lesson is only for team members, the lesson is not transferrable to your friends. Transferring the lesson to your friends will result in a disciplinary action. There are black out periods over the school holiday period and lesson will only be delivered if a paying guest is within the lesson.

Can I lend my staff season pass to a friend?

Absolutely not. Lending your season pass to someone else will result in disciplinary action/termination.

Where can I use my staff discounts?

You can use your staff discount at all our hospitality, rental/retail venues. You just need to ensure that you have your B-Tag with you.

I have finished up, what’s the exit process?

Please complete a clearance form. You would need to get it signed my your manager/supervisor, your lodge manager and staff services. Upon completion of clearance form, your bond return will be processed if all uniforms are returned, your accommodation is clean, tidy and no damages.

How do I get notified if I have to undergo the random Drug & Alcohol screening?

If you are picked for the random D&A screening you will be notified by your supervisor/manager during the day. You will be sent to the Staff Services Office where the screening will be conducted.

Do I get discounts buying lift passes for my friends/family?

If it is your first season, unfortunately no discounts for lift passes. If you are a return staff you are entitled to the Bring-A-Mate Dynamic Passes.

2nd seasonnaires – 5 X Bring A Mate Passes

3rd season + – 10 X Bring A Mate Passes

These passes are free off peak and 50% during peak season.

I have a maintenance request on my staff accommodation, who do I contact?

Building Maintenance Requests can now be logged online (similar to IT requests).

To access the new portal please use this and click on Building Maintenance Request. If damages are not reported to the Lodge Manager/Staff Services , the remaining housemates will be followed up with and may have to cover the cost of damages.

How do I know where my bed allocation is?

Your department hiring manager will be in touch with you regarding your start date and bed allocation. Please note start dates can change depending on snow conditions so keep in touch with your department hiring manager.

Does working a season counts for 88 days / 6 months on a Working Holiday Visa (WHV)?

Unfortunately no it doesn’t count (at least for now). There are farms and construction work around the mountain that you can apply for after the season.

How long before I start work can I move into Staff Accommodation?

You are able to move into your Staff Accommodation no more than two days (48 hours) prior to you commencing work with BSL. In some circumstances accommodation may be provided more than two days prior to employment, this is particularly relevant for our international staff.

How do I pay rent and the bond?

The cost of rent varies depending on the location of your accommodation.

  • Rent is deducted weekly (after tax) from your pay for the pay period shown on your payslip
  • Rent is a flat fee per week regardless of if you choose to stay every night or limited nights. There is no pro-rata/nightly payment option, with the exception of the week you initially check in and check out
  • If team members are offered less than 15 hours in any one week, accommodation charges will be discounted proportionately to reflect the rostered hours worked

An accommodation and uniform bond will be deducted in two parts from the first two pay periods after commencing work as a security deposit from all team members

 

I have already bought my season pass and now working for BSL, can I get a refund?

Yes as long as you have fulfilled the required working days and is approved by your manager. Fill this form to apply for a refund in accordance with the Season Membership Protection Plan clause, or the Pandemic clause detailed in the 2024 Season Membership Terms of Issue and Use. Applications must be submitted before October 31st, 2024. Any late submissions will not be processed.
